Faces

Here is a small showcase of the faces I completed in Mays 29 faces Challenge.  I didnt manage all 29 for the month as I was busy with my LAA stuff.  But I did complete 15 and here is half a dozen of the ones I thought turned out best.

 

Book of Days

Been working in my moleskine and playing around with my new prisma colour pencils and trying out a lettering idea.  This page is more akin to the journal pages I should be doing for Book of Days but never seem to get around to.  So busy with the coming up exhibition in May stuff.  My sketchbook is being exhibited too so Im trying to fill it up with stuff LOL

Koh- I - Noor Pencils

I was playing in my moleskine with my new Koh-i-noor pencils.  I did two sketches from my imagination of girls.  Here are how they turned out.

Sketchbook update

This week in the evenings Ive been playing in my sketchbook with a butterfly and a whimsy girl.  The butterly was inspired by a little quote I like and the whimsy girl inspired by one of my spring walks this week.

Freedom & Faeries

Ive been working in my moleskine the last couple of days and trying out shading tangles and just playing with a wee whimsical faery idea.
The faeries were made using watercolour pencil, collage and fine liners.  I had great fun with this spread.

Sketchbook Stuff

 I was playing in my sketchbook yesterday and played around with a face and tangled my hand.  It was fun to find time just to play again after working so hard on exhibition stuff last week.

 

Fabulous Face in pencil

Last night I worked in my moleskine and did a face with an hb mechanical pencil.  It amazes me sometimes what can be achieved with one little pencil lol

An Elf Sketch

Yesterday I did a sketch of and Elf and forgot to post it.  So here she is.

Whimsical Words wk2

Been working on my whimsical words the last couple of days for week 2.  Doing quotations and combining them with journal girls.  This week we are learning to do quotes, and using different ink methods.  So far Ive watched the first two videos, still plenty to explore.  Here is how my quote writing got on.

 

Florence and the Machine

This afternoon I was working in my moleskine and had a little play with a macro face and decided to put lyrics that mean a lot to me at the moment down the right hand side of the spread.  I just love the song "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence & the Machine.  I used the first verse from the song to connect to.

Another Pencil Portrait

Tonight I was playing in my moleskine with two pencils this time an HB and a B to make this little journal spread and portrait. Im finding that the more I practice the better I am getting at hair.  Should really look up a detailed hair tutorial on google soon though.

Pencil Portrait

Today I worked on a Fabulous Face. Taking referece from a model in Elle magazine and using an HB pencil.  I also used a little shammy leather to polish the graphite and help with the shading.

Lemons Quote

Yesterday I also worked more on my pen series of whimsical girls and with a quote.  I am enjoying zentangling at the moment as its so relaxing and keeps me really calm and in the zen space lol.

Cross-Hatching Practice

Yesterday I went to hobbycraft and bought some lovely new stabilo fine liners. They are so lovely to use.  I was trying out some cross-hatching with them for Bonnie Rose class week 3 in Lifebook.  I also tried out a new hairstyle from a manga book I have.  I played about with the light and shade.  Face shaded from the left to right and the hair shaded from the right to left...it looks a bit mixed up...but I was concentrating on the hatching not the actual drawing and the hairstyle.

Live, Love, Laugh

I was playing around with a new pen (a sharpie fine liner) Last night and the muse brought me an interesting whimsy girl.  I hadnt used pen cross-hatching or stipple technique for years. So I thought I'd have a go with this piece. This drawing also holds all my hopes for my relationship with my hubby.

Uploading Some Old Artwork

 I had my husband digging out my old portfolios from way back in the 80's today.  It was lovely to reconnect with all of my old artwork.  Some of the old pieces have much more merit than I ever credited them with.  Funny how you look back and things change.  I think its me thats changed though! LOL

Aine & Her Mare

For Bonnie Rose's Lessons for Week 3 of Lifebook we have to unite our inner light and shade represented by Goddesses that we are connecting to.  Ive chosen Aine, the celtic irish goddess (otherwise known as the queen of the fairies).  She is also symbolized with a Red Mare.  Ive also chosen the Greek Goddess Selene and Im going to use a serpentine dragon for her symbolism.  I'm still working out words to connect to them both for the final piece too.  At times this seems a very challenging but an interesting lesson. Ive already watched all of the figure drawing videos and the marbling and hatching technique that Bonnie gave us.

So striking out with my first ever horse, fairy & serpentine dragon drawings, I thought Id share this embryonic stage with you all.

This is my Aine and her red mare and Ive worked on a dragon from Dragoart  Im probably only going to use the head in the final piece.

More Pen Whimsicals

Yesterday I was doing more whimsical faces in pen and ink and a valentine doodle.  I finished my second sketchbook and was so excited to start my third (a brand new moleskine - which I didnt feel that worthy to use a few months back).  Ive decided to start scanning most of my artwork rather than photographing it. This post will have mixed images, scanned and photographed.  The lasts two images are the scanned. I think I like the scanned images best.
I was thinking I might do a journal flip video with my second sketchbook, like I did in this post with my first. 

Beehive Girl

Ive been working today on another pen and ink whimsical drawing and used a butterfly as her mouth to work out more healing though my art therapy.  I just thought how it could transform my words and empower me.

 

Braided Hair

I worked on this portrait a few days ago and wanted to share it as part of my Fabulous Faces practice.

This next sketch was great fun to play with.  I was connecting to sunflowers symbolism once more and put that detail on her hat. This is following through on my whimsical girl practice.
